07 Dec TSTC-Harlingen Holds Groundbreaking for New Facilities
TSTC-Harlingen held a groundbreaking for new facilities. The ceremony took place at the corner of 29th Street and Rio Hondo at 10:00 AM. Vice Chancellor, Cledia Hernandez welcomed attendees to the event and announced a $1 million plus investment by the Harlingen Economic Development toward facility expansion on the Harlingen Campus. The new facility being recognized will house Electrical Linework and Management Technology. She also informed those in attendance that Diesel, Electrical and Pipe Fitting training would be expanded at TSTC Harlingen.
Special remarks were provided by Ms. Lizzy De La Garza Putegnat, TSTC Regent and a representative of Titan Fuel. She spoke about how TSTC focuses on student data driven, result oriented, and aligned with workforce demands.
Mr. Mike Reeser, Chancellor & CEO of Texas State Technical College spoke about how the Rio Grande Valley is the future of Texas as the Hispanic population increased and contribute to the labor force. With 11 campuses statewide, TSTC is at the forefront of workforce development. TSTC tuition model allows for reimbursement of tuition if the student cannot find a job. Chancellor Reeser stated that since that initiative had been instated, TSTC had yet to make a reimbursement on tuition.
The event concluded with a ceremonial grounding breaking.
